Around 250 pupils and their parents attendedFutures- the first of a series of events that is dedicated to informing Year 10 and 11 pupils of the opportunities available to them after school.

From further education and work based learning to volunteering and employment, the pupils discovered a vast range of exciting options that wait them.

Futures was developed by Andrea Hall, Regional Development Manager at ACT Training. It offers information, support and guidance to teenagers who are on the cusp of making important life decisions.

Andrea said: “Itâ’s vitally important that teenagers are given access to as much information as possible on the many options that are available to them. I have come across many teenagers who are very unsure about what they want to do when they leave school.Wrexham boasts a range of fantastic opportunities and it’s our job as training providers, colleges and employers to ensure that we inform pupils and parents on our provisions so we can contribute towards the process of ensuring successful progression and positive outcomes for individuals.”

The first event took place at Ysgol y Grango on Thursday 11 December 2014.

Stephen Garthwaite, Headteacher of Ysgol y Grango, said: ” I am delighted that Ysgol y Grango was able to host its first ever Futures event.  I hope that the presentations and information provided by the organisations who attended will inspire our Year 10 and Year 11 pupils and help them to make informed decisions at this important and transitional stage of their lives.”

Coleg Cambria, Military Preparation College, Rhiwabon Sixth, Maelor Sixth, Association of Voluntary Organisation in Wrexham (AVOW), Glyndŵr University and Careers Wales were also present to showcase their provision and openings.

The next Futures event will be taking place on Wednesday 11th February 2015 at Ysgol Bryn Alyn. For more information please contact Andrea Hall on 01978 312202.
