Our special recognition award went to a very special individual: Carl Allen. Carl has shown perseverance and determination beyond all expectation in completing his qualification.
Karen Howells, Management Higher Apprentice Assessor, who put Carl forward for the award, said: “Carl is a super human being. I have never met anyone with as much grit and determination as him. At ACT we deal with thousands of learners each year, but I can honestly say I have never met a learner like Carl. He had a high pressured job, two sons with major disabilities to support, and was himself diagnosed with leukaemia. Even though his diagnosis turned his life upside down, he persevered with his learning and said his ILM course helped distract him and keep him active in a difficult time. His continuous drive to learn and keep going, even when battling a life-threatening disease, is truly inspirational – he never gave up.”
Last night we also celebrated our nine Traineeship learners who took part in Alfie’s Army this year. They were amongst a hundred rookie runners trained up by Gareth ‘Alfie’ Thomas and his team to successfully complete the Cardiff Half Marathon. They were one of two groups filmed for BBC Wales and took all the challenges they were presented within their stride. We would like to thank everyone involved in last night’s awards, especially to the judging panel who had the hard job of shortlisting and selecting the winners out of a huge pile of nominations. We would also like to thank Cardiff and Vale College for hosting us and to The Classroom team for catering the event.
Final congratulations to everyone, a huge well done to the winners and thank you to all who attended last night! Watch this space for 2018!
