Skills Ambassador and rugby legend Jonathan Davies OBE has congratulated the first group of apprentices at Swansea University who have completed their training with ACT Training.

The event, held in the Great Hall Restaurant on the University’s Bay Campus, celebrated the success of 25 team members delivering services at Swansea University who have recently completed their apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering, Facilities Management and Cleaning and Support Services.

The apprentices are: Katherine Blain, Andrew Withers, Michael Hayward, Julie Demery, Julie Phillips, Evelyn Ligendza, Ann Whitby, Debra Smith, Jacqueline Hole, Egly Akstiwaite, Christopher Hancock, Alexandra Cracuin, Yun Sun, Lukasz Nowak and Nawal Mounzer.

The occasion was attended by rugby pundit Jonathan Davies OBE as well representatives from ACT Training and Swansea University.

It is not very well known that Jonathan Davies left school with just two O Levels and started his working life as an apprentice painter and decorator. He now, in his role as ACT’s Skills Ambassador, helps to encourage others to use apprenticeships to upskill and develop themselves.

Commenting on the employees’ success, Jonathan said: “Thank you for inviting me along today to be part of the celebrations and congratulations to everyone. You should be proud of your achievements.”

Nanele Lewis, Head of Campus Services at Swansea University, said: “I am so proud of our catering team, the Noonan cleaning operatives and the St Modwen residences team who have all completed their apprenticeship training. They all work exceptionally hard, many in the background, ensuring that our buildings and beautiful spaces are maintained to a wonderful standard and providing excellent customer service to all of our students, staff and visitors. It is an absolute pleasure to take some time out to celebrate their success and congratulate them on gaining nationally-recognised qualifications.”

Andrew Cooksley, Chief Executive Officer at ACT Training said: “Congratulations to all apprentices at Swansea University. I am always delighted to hear of our learners’ success and the significant contributions they are making in their workplaces.”
