The BBC Make It Digital programme is a brand new training programme that will help unemployed people boost their chances of getting a job in digital roles.

Run in partnership between BBC Wales, ACT Training and the Department of Work and Pensions, there are 200 BBC Make It Digital training places available.

Training places are being offered in Wrexham and Bangor in the New Year with the first training sessions starting on 25 January 2016.

The Make It Digital scheme aims to grow basic level digital skills and is an eight week intensive programme that is delivered via workshops and a work placement. Trainees can expect to learn current media and technology skills and gain relevant employability training to help them secure a job, an apprenticeship or progression onto further learning.

Lucy Campbell, 23, from Cardiff, was one of the first trainees in Wales to complete the programme.

Lucy said: “I know I am really lucky to be in the first group in Wales to benefit from the BBC Make It Digital programme. I worked in the BBC Innovation Lounge. It is an amazing space, packed with loads of up-and-coming technology and equipment. I loved it.

“I spent days researching new tech, working on their website and assisting with twitter. I found it enjoyable because nobody really knew I was on placement. Everyone just assumed I had worked there for a while but never met me before. I had worried I might spend the whole time making tea, but I was taken seriously and my input was appreciated. It was brilliant.”

Make it Digital was launched back in March by Tony Hall, the BBC Director-General, with the aim of inspiring a new generation to get creative with coding, programming and digital technology.

Jessica Cecil, Controller, BBC Make It Digital said: “The BBC Make It Digital Traineeships are underway across Scotland, Wales and England – a partnership to help unemployed young people gain some of the skills they need to fill the digital jobs of today and tomorrow. We always wanted to embed the Traineeships in communities across the country and I had the pleasure of speaking to the first Welsh graduates in Cardiff last week. It was so inspiring to see the talent and enthusiasm emerging from this initiative, and how their new skills have opened doors to exciting carers whilst providing a real benefit to British business.-
